Pitcher, 1812/25. Jug with portrait of American naval officer James Lawrence and his last words: "don't surrender the Ship!". Lawrence commanded the USS Chesapeake during the War of 1812, and shouted "Don't give up the ship!" as the Chesapeake was captured by HMS Shannon of the Royal Navy. Made in Staffordshire, England, for the American market.
