Vauxhall Cross, Albert Embankment, Vauxhall, Lambeth, London, 10/10/1992. A view of the recently completed Vauxhall Cross from north-west across the River Thames, with the sculpture 'Locking Piece' by Henry Moore in the foreground. Vauxhall Cross, also known as the SIS or MI6 Building, was designed by the architect Terry Farrell and was built by Laing Management Contracting for Regalian Properties. It was sold to the government, becoming the headquarter offices for the British Secret Intelligence Service or MI6. Laing won the contract for the building in 1989, with ground works starting in 1990 and completion of the structure taking place in 1992. The building was constructed in reinforced concrete and clad with concrete panels, with the floors stepped back from the Thames to create river front terraces.
