Meeting in Willis's Rooms, St. James's [in London], for the Erection of a Memorial to the late Sir Robert Peel, 1850. '...his Grace the Duke of Wellington reading the first resolution to the meeting. On the left of his Grace is seated the right hon. chairman, the Earl of Aberdeen; and next, Viscount Hardinge'. The meeting was held by friends and admirers of Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel, '"for the purpose of perpetuating by some enduring memorial the recollection of his talents, his exertions in the public service, and his exemplary private virtues." The subscriptions collected in the room exceeded £1600'. Peel died after being thrown from his horse while riding on Constitution Hill in London on 29 June 1850. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
