Miss Frederika Bremer, 1850. '...London was visited by the distinguished Swedish novelist Frederika Bremer, who passed by England on her way to the United States. She arrived from Sweden on the 14th of June, spent a week with Mrs. Howitt, and then departed on her journey to America, where, it is to be supposed, she will collect materials for more of those delightful works of fiction, with which she has charmed and instructed the world'. Portrait of Fredrika Bremer, Finnish-born Swedish feminist reformer, and author or "Sketches of Everyday Life" which was extremely popular in Britain and the United States. She is regarded as the Swedish Jane Austen. Bremer successfully petitioned King Charles XIV of Sweden for emancipation from her brother's wardship. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
