'The elaborate Saltcellar and Candlestick...form part of the collections of Baron Lionel de and Sir A. Rothschild; and the beautiful white Ewer is the property of Mr. Magniac. These three are fine examples of the ware of Henry II. of France, the secret of making which is now completely lost'. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
