Silver-Gilt Clock - Renaissance, 1850. Item from an exhibition of ancient and mediaeval art at the Society of Arts in London. 'The curious little silver-gilt Clock...is another specimen ef the style of the renaissance, belonging to Mr. Baring Wall, M.P. It is surmounted by a figure of Cupid; and, as there is no accounting for the vagaries of the artists of this period we are not particularly called upon to animadvert on the length of the arrow with which the mischievous little god is pointing to the hours - perhaps as a hint to all tardy lovers'.
