Annual Dinner of the Governors of Bridewell and Bethlem Hospitals, in the Hall, Bridewell, [London], 1850. 'The entertainment takes place in the Great Hall of Bridewell Hospital, a magnificent wainscoted apartment...The President [Sir Peter Laurie]...gave a short summary of the proceedings in each Hospital during the past year, from which it appears that 316 patients had been admitted into Bethlem Hospital, and maintained there free of all charge; and that during the same period 175 patients had been discharged cured. He also stated that 80 poor destitute young offenders had been admitted into the House of Occupations, which is a part of Bridewell Hospital, having for its object the reformation of juvenile offenders; and that 64 had been outfitted and provided with situations - most of whom, on the day of the festival, were known to be doing well'.
