Chrismatory, from the Archaeological Institute Museum, 1850. Ecclesiastical object used for containing chrism oil. 'The Chrismatory...was exhibited by the Rev. Walter Sneyd, of Denton, and is an unusually good specimen of that peculiar kind of religious vessel, which contained the holy oil for sacramental purposes. Its date is about the early part of the 14th century'. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
