Légende
Ruins of an early sugar mill, Orange City, Volusia Co., Florida, between 1936 and 1939. (Such machines were used on slave plantations to process sugar. The slaves would feed lengths of cane between the rotating drums to squeeze out the juice. This was exhausting and dangerous work, and white overseers wouldn't necessarily stop the machine if a hand or arm was crushed between the rollers).
