The New Houses of Parliament - Statue of Walpole, 1854. Sculpture by John Bell in the Palace of Westminster, London. Sir Robert Walpole is considered to be the first Prime Minister of Great Britain. 'The statue of Walpole is a finely characteristic figure of the statesman; the drapery (the costume of the period) is well managed, the hanging in bold ample folds; and the work maintains the fame of the sculptor, Mr. Bell'.
