Giving an Order - painted by J.H. Mole, 1854. 'Such is the fanciful title given to a simple but agreeable rustic subject, exhibited by Mr. Mole, in the New Water-Colour Society's Exhibition of the past season, and which is painted with the clear and harmonious pencil which we generally remark in this artist. The intelligent expression of the dog must not pass without commendation: he appears to understand what he is told, though we do not'. From "Illustrated London News", 1854.
