Légende
Pediment of the Great Western Royal Hotel, Paddington, [London], 1854. 'Sculpture on the magnificent hotel lately erected at the Paddington terminus of the Great Western Railway...the sumptuous style of the principal facade [is] of the age of Louis XIV or somewhat later; the design of Mr P.C. Hardwick...the sculptural enrichments [are] by Mr [John] Thomas, including for colossal terminal figures supporting the balcony. Above is the pediment by the same sculptor... it is filled with allegorical figures including the Four Quarters characteristically attended; Peace, Plenty, Industry and Science, and their accessories. The several figures are cleverly modelled, and grouped, and the work adds to the high reputation of the sculptor Mr Thomas...'. From "Illustrated London News", 1854.
