Rear-Admiral Plumridge (Baltic Fleet) - from a family painting, 1854. 'From 1841 to 1847 Captain Plumridge sat as M.P. for Falmouth...He wears a medal with two clasps for Egypt and Trafalgar [Napoleonic Wars]. Admiral Plumridge was appointed to command the squadron of paddle-steamers attached to the Baltic Fleet [Crimean War], and has his flag in the Leopard, whose services at Bomarsund received this high encomium from Vice- Admiral Sir C. Napier, Commander-in-Chief: "I owe much to Admiral Plumridge for the manner in which he placed his squadron to prevent reinforcements being thrown in; and I am informed that two Russian Admirals were sent among the islands to see if it were possible to pass the blockading squadron, and they returned in despair. Rear-Admiral Plumridge, as second in command, I have removed into the Neptune"'. From "Illustrated London News", 1854.
