Légende
Saint Valerian, left wing of a triptych, c.1490-c.1500. Valerianus is holding a garland of flowers and a sword (the latter the symbol of his martyrdom). The garland of roses held by Valerianus are an allusion to the flowers with which they were crowned by the angel to mark their lives of chastity.
