The New Inland Revenue Office - Statues just placed on the New Front of Somerset House, 1857. 'These statues personify the three principal cities of the United Kingdom - London, Edinburgh, and Dublin. London is represented holding a sceptre in her right hand, and in her left a wreath of laurel: she is murally crowned, and the hair falls upon the shoulders in large curls...The drapery is very boldly treated...The figure of Edinburgh is gracefully treated. She is attired in a rather close dress, over which is thrown a mantle...in the left hand she has a spear...Dublin is perhaps the least successful of the three personifications of the cities - the drapery does not hang so well. She holds in her right hand and supports on the right hip the harp of Erin; in the left hand she bears a scroll, partly unrolled...The statue of London is by Legrew; and those of Edinburgh and Dublin are by Theed'.
