The Royal Visit to India: Jumoo, Cashmere, visited by the Prince of Wales, 1876. 'Jummoo, on the northern frontier of the Punjaub, is the principal residence of his Highness the Maharajah of Cashmere, who there entertained the Prince of Wales...Jummoo stands on the first wave of ground which begins the slope of the Himalayan range...The Tuvee river runs on the south of the town...from which a very fine view of the higher mountains can be seen to the east. Prominent among these is a triple-peaked summit, which, like all other mountains so shaped, is peculiarly sacred to the worshippers of Siva. They call it Trikuta, and identify it with the trident of the god, and on this account they pay it great reverence. The Tuvee drains a large valley...[Runbeer Singh]'s palace...overlooks the river, and commands a beautiful view of the higher range beyond'. From "Illustrated London News", 1876.
