Philadelphia Sketches: Selling the "Pennsylvania Journal" of One Hundred Years Ago, by one of our special artists, 1876. 'In connection with the Centennial Festival, which will arrive at its consummation on the memorable Fourth of July, the visitor to Philadelphia is reminded of its historical significance by the sale of a reprint of the "Pennsylvania Journal" of that date in 1776. It was the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the delegates of the thirteen American colonies, assembled in their second Continental Congress, to resist the arbitrary conduct of the British Government towards them...The man who sells the reprint of the old colonial newspaper is dressed in the costume of a hundred years ago, and his speech and behaviour are quite in character, as one of the heroes of the American Revolution'. From "Illustrated London News", 1876.
