The 70th Bengal Native Infantry drawing rations at the Commissariat Stores, Canton, 1858. Indian soldiers in China. 'The Bengalese drawing their rations make a rather good subject for the picturesque; they are down at the Commissariat Stores on Wednesdays. Outside the shop is the road to the beach. Various cases of boiled beef fill up the inside, and sacks of rice opposite. The gentleman with beads is a Brahmin'. From "Illustrated London News", 1858.
