Star of Night - Serenade, 1858. Sheet music - poetry by John Ellison, composed by M. Enderssohn. 'Gently rise, thou star of night, Shedding round thy blissful light; Charm the tardy hours away, While in pensive mood I stray, I stray, In pensive mood I stray; And my trembling light guitar Sounds to her, my evening star. Nature's charms in slumber lie, But the light of Ada's eye Sleepeth not, but soon shall beam Brightly as the moonlit stream, As the tale her lover tells, On the balmy night-breeze swells. Gently rise, thou star of night, Shedding round thy blissful light, Charm the tardy hours away, While in pensive mood I stray. And my trembling light guitar Sounds to her, sweet ev'ning star'.
