Fashions for November - Dress of Silver-Grey Silk, 1858. 'The skirt is edged with a trimming formed of the same material as the dress, disposed in very small plaits, and headed by a row of velvet. In front a plaiting of the same kind forms a sort of half tablier, rising only to the height of the knees. The corsage is high, and the upper part is composed entirely of small folds or plaits. The sleeves are in three puffs at the upper part, and from the elbow to the wrist they are in small plaits, setting closely to the arm. Bonnet of white velours épinglé, with a voilette of white lace turned back and falling over the crown. Strings of broad pink ribbon. Under trimming a demi-wreath of wild roses, intermingled with the blonde ruche. Out of doors a long cashmere shawl is worn over this dress'. From "Illustrated London News", 1858.
