The Show-man, 1799. 'Keep your eye close to the Glass - and you will see a large / vide place full of Death and Destruction - where more / plagues await de frequenters den contained in de famous Box of Pandora'. 'Well, you be a droll blade however - I see nothing but a Potticary's shop!!'. A yokelish type marvels at an early magic lantern which consists of a wooden box with three windows and three bells on top, powered by a squirrel in a treadmill. The owner, with a pigtail and wearing a hat to which a clay pipe is attached, pulls strings.
