Strand Street in Cape Town, 1786. View of the Strandstraat in Cape Town, seen from the Lutheran parish house where Brandes was staying between April 20 and May 20, 1786. A Swiss soldier guards the (VOC) warehouse. The walls of the castle can be seen in the background, with the Devil's Peak and the southernmost point of Table Mountain. There are oxen in the middle of the street. On the right is a man smoking.
