Légende
The Arrival of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales at Alexandria, Egypt, 1862. The future King Edward VII goes to Africa. Engraving of a drawing sent by M. Conseil. 'The Prince arrived at Alexandria on the 1st April. The arrangements for his reception underwent considerable modification, and, among other things, the intention of receiving him with a sort of feu de joie from the batteries of the harbour was abandoned. The matter was compromised by the Prince landing under the ordinary salute of twenty-one guns, which the Viceroy insisted could not be dispensed with, since its omission would have been liable to be misconstrued by the people of the country. His Royal Highness landed at the railway terminus, and at once went on to Cairo, where the Viceroy awaited his arrival and received him with every possible attention'.
