The International Exhibition: bookcase by Hindley and Son, 1862. 'It is carved in light-coloured oak, and is in the mediaeval style: it stands 10ft. 6in. in height, is 7ft. long, and has the centre doors panelled with glass, over which is a light tracery of wood. The end doors below are carved solid and are minutely finished; and the scrolls, which now contain the word Hindley and the date 1862, are destined to receive mottoes. The architectural massing out of the structure is good, and the construction is well considered, support being given where occasion requires; and one feature which is frequently overlooked, and yet which is of the highest importance, is here attended to - i.e., that oƒ avoiding loose projecting ornaments, which are both in danger of injuring the occupant of the apartment they furnish and of being injured themselves'.
