Légende
Layer Marney Tower, Essex, visited by the Essex Archaeological Society, 1862. House '...erected by Sir Henry Marney, Captain of the Guard to Henry VIII., afterwards created Knight of the Garter, Lord Privy Seal, and Baron Marney; the latter in the year 1523. He died the next year, and was succeeded by his son John, who, it is remarkable, died also within twelve months of his elevation to the title of Lord Marney. With him the title ceased, and the construction of the building also, it is presumed. The property, after reverting to the Crown, passed into the possession of Sir Brian Tuke, secretary to Cardinal Wolsey. It is now the property of the Rev. S. Farman, a gentleman of great liberality, who on Thursday opened the whole of the premises to the inspection of the society and visitors, and read to them a paper on the history of the building'.
