The International Exhibition: Coalbrookdale gates and court, 1862. 'The gates...consist of three portions, intervening between the four pillar-like piers. The divisions to the right and left each contain a pair of gates, while in the central portion there is a large ornamental arch formed of light scrollwork. The architectural setting-out of the work is good, and the construction is well considered, it having been kept in view throughout that the material at command is iron. The ornamental work, which is pure and rich in character, is Italian, and over the side gates and the central arch is the Prince of Wales's feather braided in a wreath of laurels. A feature of peculiar interest in this court is the manifestation which we have that every article is produced by casting, and not by beating the metal into form'.
