The International Exhibition: patent carpet by Jackson and Graham, 1862. 'It is in style purely French, and is of the best period of the style; and to those who are partial to bright and cheerful carpets it will be peculiarly welcome, for there is a simplicity and purity about it which we but rarely see in works of such an elaborate character. The general field of the carpet is maroon, diapered with a neat crimson star; the grounds of the border and of the central passages are white, and of the broad band surrounding the centre ellipse, lilac; and the border is separated from the field by a broad ornamental golden-yellow line, and a narrow line of green, which falls on the maroon-field; the flowers are naturally treated, and the Italian scrollwork of the border is in rich and harmonious colouring, and it, like the laurel-border which is external to it, is well composed. As a whole, the carpet is agreeably massed out, and is a noble illustration of its style'. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
