Légende
The International Exhibition: tapestries of Gobelins and Beauvais, and china of Sevres, 1862. 'The large central tapestry, "The Assumption of the Virgin," after Titian; the tapestry immediately to its right, containing the portrait of Louis XIV. of France; and the two carpets are from Gobelins; and the other tapestries are from Beauvais. It is difficult, if not impossible, to say which are best, as the productions of both factories are of unrivalled merit. The china of Sèvres is as celebrated as the tapestries, and some of the greatest efforts of the celebrated imperial pottery are here set forth - the new colours, the enamels, and the paintings being of the highest excellence'.
