Colonel Guthrie on U.S.S. Recruit, July 1917. Colonel Percy Albert Guthrie (1884-1948), leader of the 236th Canadian Infantry (the Maclean Highlanders), speaking on the U.S.S. Recruit, a wooden battleship mockup built in Union Square, New York City by the Navy to recruit seamen and sell Liberty Bonds during World War I. The Maclean Highlanders ("Kilties") were in New York in July 1917 to assist in recruitment efforts. Captain Charles Albert Adams (1846-1929) the commander of the U.S.S. Recruit stands to the right of Guthrie, in a white uniform.
