Légende
English church in the civil station of Guzerat, [India], 1864. 'In 1860, Sir Robert Montgomery, K.C.B., the present lieutenant Governor of the Punjaub, brought to the notice of the supreme Government the question of accommodation for Protestant worship in the Punjaub provinces, and, feeling a very deep interest in the work, obtained sanction for the construction of churches at all stations where no such accommodation had been provided. Thus, through Sir R. Montgomery's exertions, no less than fifteen small churches were constructed at civil stations in the Punjaub during 1861. The Guzerat Church is one of the number, and was built by Captain E. H. Paske, Deputy Commissioner of the district, on plans furnished by [the British] Government'.
