Demolition of the Paris Exhibition Building: the Park, 1868. 'The readers of this Journal, whether personally visiting the Exhibition or not, were enabled, by our numerous Illustrations, to see every part of the wonderful spectacle, and had the exclusive privilege of studying the official criticisms of the English reporters commissioned by our own Government. The Grand Universal or International Exhibition of Paris is now a thing of the past, and its place will know it no more when the last remnant of masonry, ironwork, or woodwork shall have been carted away, following in the train of that disconsolate statue of Fame, or Victory, whose enforced departure is shown in our Artist's view of the devastation at present in the park. Sic transit gloria mundi, which has often been said before; but there is nothing else to be said'. The Exposition Universelle of 1867 was a world's fair held in Paris from 1 April to 3 November 1867. A number of nations were represented at the fair. The exposition was held in the midst of the renovation of Paris, marking the culmination of the Second French Empire.
