General view of the new docks a Millwall, 1868. View of the dock constructed by the Millwall Freehold Land and Docks Company, '...the largest in the port of London, being 450 ft. long and 80 ft. wide, and having a depth of 28 ft. in the middle. The dry dock is not much smaller. The warehouses built on the wharves all round, with their powerful cranes, the steam-engines and machinery for opening or shutting the dock-gates, are equally remarkable. The engineers were Messrs. Fowler and Wilson; the contractors for the docks were Messrs. Kelk and Aird; for the engines and machines Messrs. Armstrong'. From "Illustrated London News", 1868.
