Group from the Meyrick Collection of Armour, in the South Kensington Museum, [London], 1869. Items from '...the magnificent collection of armour belonging to Colonel Meyrick, of Goodrich Court, Herefordshire, the heir to Sir Samuel Meyrick, whose antiquarian industry and liberal pecuniary expenditure for that purpose formed this collection many years ago. It is now to be seen in the South Kensington galleries overlooking the Horticultural Society's Gardens; and the manner in which it has been arranged by Mr. J. R. Planché, with the assistance of Mr. Pierce, grouping the objects chronologically in the several bays allotted to distinct periods of history, will greatly facilitate a regular study of the subject. The Illustration shows two of the mounted figures in complete armour charging with lance in rest, which first meet the eye on entering the eastern gallery. The walls are hung with helmets, corslets, and other pieces of armour; shields, lances, halberds, axes, spears, crossbows swords, and daggers, which are very well worthy of inspection'.
