Légende
Memorial of the late Sir Joseph Paxton at Coventry, 1868. 'Soon after the death of the late Sir Joseph Paxton, who was the representative of Coventry in the House of Commons, a meeting of his friends and admirers was held in that city, and it was resolved that a suitable monument should be erected to his honour in the cemetery, though he was not interred there. A fund was subscribed for the purpose, and intrusted to the management of a local committee, of whom Mr. John Golson was the chairman. Designs were invited from a number of different architects, and that of Messrs. Goddard and Son, of Leicester, was selected in the competition. The Engraving represents the design of this monument, which is constructed of Portland stone, with polished granite shafts. It is not yet complete'. From "Illustrated London News", 1868.
