Paris fashions for April, 1868. 'Fig. 1. Toilette de Visite, in drap de Lyons of the new shade termed "Vin de Bordeaux."...Over the robe is worn a fichu Marie-Antoinette of black lace...The chapeau of black lace is trimmed with a white rose...'Fig. 2. Toilette de Promenade. Robe à queue and entablier in mauve-coloured taffeta, trimmed all round with a satin band...The robe is made short in front and open at the sides; so as to show the deep ruche of a white cambric jupon. Fig. 3. Toilette de Diner. Lilac-coloured robe a deux jupes...The sleeves are short and rather loose...The low, square-cut corsage...is bordered with narrow black lace...Fig. 4. Robe de Bal, consisting of a jupe of white tulle, with four deep puffs at the bottom, over which is worn a black lace skirt, ornamented with large double scollops round the edge. Smaller scollops form the basques of the corsage. A rich ornament of pearls loops up the lace skirt at each side, and a similar ornament is worn in front of the low bodice. The bracelets are of gold, studded with pearls, as are the bands of the coiffure. In lieu of a chignon, a cluster of long curls falls from the top of the head, within a few inches of the waist'.
