Prince Alfred in Australia: H.R.H. receiving the address of the Adelaide City Corporation, 1868. Engraving of a photograph by Mr. T. Duryea. '...the principal structure...was at the south end of King William-street, where the city address was to be presented to his Royal Highness...As his Royal Highness approached, the Royal Standard was run up on the arch; and as he turned into King William-street a cheer of welcome rose from a thousand voices, the guard presented arms, and the band struck up the National Anthem. The carriage having reached the arch, a short halt was made to enable the Mayor, Mr. H. R. Fuller, M.P.. to present the city address...When his Royal Highness halted, the Mayor and Corporation advanced to the carriage, where his Worship spoke to the Prince and asked him to receive the address. It was read by the town clerk, and then put into a silver casket, and handed to the Prince on a velvet cushion. His Royal Highness thanked the Mayor and town council in a gracious reply, and then moved off amid the thunder of a Royal salute from a battery of guns placed on the South Park lands, and manned by the Port Artillery, under Lieutenant Edmunds'.
