Légende

The Jug Rock, in Southern Indiana, 1869. 'The Jug Rock is situated in a ravine in a forest not far from the east fork of the White River, Southern Indiana. It stands completely alone, and is about 70 ft. in height, one solid column of freestone, measuring 50 ft. in circumference 4 ft. from the base, and not less than 65 ft. in the centre. The small tree on the top is a sarvice-berry tree, which in the summer is profusely covered with pendent white flowers. The fruit is of the most delicate flavour. Wild bushes fringe the edge, and vines are depending from it all around. The base of the rock for upwards of 2 ft. is richly clothed with a variety of mosses, which, in the month of June, give it the appearance of a colossal flower-pot. The Engraving is from a sketch by Mr. George Donaldson, formerly of Glasgow'. From "Illustrated London News", 1869.
