The Windings of Lough Erne, County Fermanagh, [Ireland], 1869. View of '...the beautiful scenery of Lough Erne...There are two lakes which bear the name of Erne, the Upper and the Lower; lying amidst low hills of the softest and freshest verdure, and studded with a great number of pretty wooded islets, they present a most charming succession of landscapes, without the grandeur of Killarney, but with infinite grace. The small town of Enniskillen, which is situated...on the piece of land between the two lakes, is the head-quarters for tourists in this delightful region; steam-boats passing to and fro continually from Belturbet, at the southern end of the Upper Lough, through the river which flows thence into the Lower Lough, and which afterwards pours into the Atlantic...In its narrower parts, Lough Erne is like a majestic river'.
