Syd Walker Talking to Stanley Holloway About Using gramophone records for War Materials, 1942. Britain during the Second World War. 'One thing we were asked to do was save old gramophone discs - not to torture Hitler to death by playing them over to him, but for salvaging some ingredient or other [shellac] to help make something to throw at him. To collect these old records, Syd Walker went around with a barrow...[Stanley Holloway:] "Syd, pick up these records - they're worn out and just fit for scrap". [Syd:] "Blimey ain't you like Stanley Holloway." [Stanley:] "Well I am Stanley Holloway". [Syd:] "Oh, perhaps that accounts for it".' From "Time To Remember - The End Of The Beginning", 1942 ( Reel 2); documentary film about events of 1942 and America's entry into the war.
