The Tomb of Raffaelle Sanzio di Urbino, in the Pantheon at Rome, 1870. Tourists at the monument to the Italian Renaissance painter in the Church of Santa Maria della Rotonda, '...the ancient Roman Pantheon. On passing through its great bronze door and turning to the left hand a square slab of marble is found, with the following inscription: "D. O. M. RAPHAELI - SANCTIO IOANN - F - VEBINATI - PICTORI - EMINENTISS - VETERVMQ - AEMVLO - CVIVS - SPIRANTES - PROPE - IMAGINES - SI - CONTEMPLERE - NATVRAE - ATQ - ARTIS - FOEDVS - FACILE - INSPEXERIS - IVLII - II - ET - LEONIS - X - PONTT - MAXX - PICTVRAE - ET - ARCHITECT - OPERIBVS - GLORIAM - AVXIT - VIX - ANN0S - XXXVII - INTEGER - INTEGROS - QVO - DIE - NATVS - EST - EO - ESSE, - DESIIT - VIII - ID - APRILIS - MDXX - ILLE - HIC - EST - RAPHAEL - TIMVIT - QVO - SOSPITE - VINCI - RERVM - MAGNA - PARENS - ET MORIENTE - MORI -". At the side is an altar endowed by Raffaelle with a picture of the Virgin and Child, painted, at his desire, by his pupil as well as friend, Lorenzo Lotto'. From "Illustrated London News", 1870.
