Allhallows Staining Church, Mark-Lane, [City of London], 1870. 'The demolition of this ancient City church is begun, under the provisions of the Union of Benefices Act. It had seats for about 300 persons, but the latest return of attendance was twenty-five...Provision is made for the sale of the site of the church to the Clothworkers' Company, the back of whose hall...abuts on the churchyard; but it is a condition that only a portion of the site shall be built upon. Part of the ground is to be thrown into Mark-lane, and the remainder of the churchyard it is proposed to plant as a garden for the Clothworkers' Company. Provision is also made for the decent removal of the remains interred in the church and churchyard...The date of the foundation of the church is unknown. The earliest mention of it is 1329'.
