'The progress of his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh in his voyages and travels amongst the Asiatic provinces and dependencies of Queen Victoria's great empire, and his passing visits to those of China and Japan, has been recorded, from time to time, during the last two months...[In Hong Kong] the Prince...attended several public entertainments, besides laying the foundation-stone of the new choir of St. John's Cathedral, and formally opening the new City Hall...[Our illustration shows] the front of the Hong-Kong Club, in the Queen's-road, illuminated with Chinese lanterns, on the festive night after the Prince's arrival in that city'.
