The Duke of Edinburgh at Penang: house occupied by the Duke, 1870. Engraving from a photograph by Mr. K. Feilberg. 'Our correspondent proceeds to relate the visit of his Royal Highness Prince Alfred to this attractive spot: "When the news reached us that the Galatea and her Royal Captain would touch at our port on the way to Calcutta, loyalty was the prevailing feeling amongst us. All the different nationalities contended in emulation to express their devotion to the Queen by their welcome to her son and representative...The house occupied by the Prince had been recently built by Mr. Koh Sin Tat, and was, in the most handsome and public-spirited manner, placed by that gentleman at the disposal of Government for the use of his Royal Highness'.
