Eaton Hall, Eaton and Eccleston, Cheshire West and Chester, 1973. General view of Eaton Hall in the final stages of its construction from the east with a formal pond in the foreground and showing Eaton Chapel to the north. Since the first substantial house on the site, built in the 1670s, Eaton Hall has undergone a succession of demolitions, rebuildings and remodellings. In the 1960s the Victorian house, suffering from dry rot, was demolished and construction of this iteration of the hall began in 1971. Rectangular, flat-roofed and faced with white travertine the new building was considered unsympathic to its surroundings and between 1989 and 1991 the exterior was remodelled to resemble a French chateau.
