Wrestlers, 1875-1897. Studio portrait of three sumo wrestlers and a "gyoji" or referee, demonstrating a pre-match ceremony. One of the wrestlers stands in the center with one arm stretched out. To his right is the "tachimochi" or sword-bearer, holding a sword in the latter's hand, while to his far left is the "tsuyuharai" or herald.
