Roman Sarcophagus Fragment, about A.D. 250-275. Additional Info: Sarcophagus fragment preserves central part with shell containing a portrait bust of a man. The shell is held by two hands on either side (perhaps sea centaurs). A small wing is preserved next to upper hand at right (evidently a flying eros). Beneath the shell is a hand from a small figure turned to the right (Scylla with a rudder). Inside the shell the bust of a man wearing a tunic and an outer garment with tip hanging down his left forearm. He is holding a rotulus with left hand. On either side, inside the shell, erotes are approaching the man; on the left an eros has his right hand on man's shoulder while raising the left greeting him; to his right an eros is touching his garment with left hand while his right is around his neck.
