Gold Band Pyxis (missing lid), end of 1st century B.C.-beginning of 1st century A.D. Additional Info: Mosaic gold band marbled pyxis (missing lid) formed from serpentine lengths of canes in an amber brown glass outlined with an opaque white, adjacent to a clear green interspersed with an amber yellow, next to colorless glass encasing gold leaf, then a dark cobalt blue interspersed with yellow/white glass to create a creamy blue outlined with an opaque white. This pattern in repeated three times, with the gold snaking around the green and blue successively, the green being limited to the upper registers and the blue to the lower. Cast in a mold then cold worked on a rotary lathe.
