La Marseillaise personified on the Arc de Triomphe, Paris, France. The sculptural group, also known as Départ des Volontaires, by Francois Rude, was completed in 1836. It celebrates the cause of the French First Republic during the uprising on 10 August 1792. Above the volunteers is the winged personification of Liberty.
