Forum thermal baths, Pompeii, Italy, 2002. Public baths, built immediately after the founding of the colony (after 80 BC). They were subdivided into men's and women's sections. Room of the "calidarium" with its hot water bath. Basin which was filled with cold water so that bathers could cool off. The Roman town of Pompeii (modern-day Campania) was buried under volcanic ash and pumice during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
