Légende

The Ruins of Paris: the rue du Bac, 1871. The last of the Paris Commune: '...ruins of public buildings, destroyed by the fury of the Communist faction... The Rue du Bac is situated in a line with the Pont Royal, the bridge that crosses the Seine at the south end of the Tuileries, opposite the Pavilion de Flore. Looking up this street, from the Quai d'Orsay, on which, to the right hand, are the ruins of the Palaces of the Council of State and the Legion of Honour, with the barracks adjoining the first-named edifice, a scene of havoc and dire confusion was beheld'.
